Florida Governor Ron Desantis was not impressed with President Joe Biden’s big speech saying it was one of the most disgusting speeches an American president has ever given before calling Biden a failed leader and giving him a new nickname, the American Nero.

He said: “Biden’s speech was one of the most disgusting speeches an American president has ever given. He ran as being a unifier, and he’s basically saying to the vast majority of the country that disapproves of him that they’re effectively a threat to the republic.

“He dodders, he lashes out. But at the end of the day, his policies are why there’s so much opposition to him. He came in and he opened the border, and we’ve seen what a disaster that’s been. He kneecapped American energy.

“We’ve seen how that’s hurt millions and millions of people across our country. They’ve inflated the currency.

“We have one of the worst inflations we’ve had in over 40 years. So of course, people are going to be upset at all the wreckage that he’s left in his wake.

“He is the American Nero. He’s a failed leader.”

Biden seemed to walk back some of his comments when Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked: “Do you think all Trump supporters are a threat to the country?”

Biden said: “I don’t consider any Trump supporter to be a threat. I do think anyone who calls for the use of violence and refuses to acknowledge an election has been won. That is a threat to democracy.”

“The 74 million people who voted for Trump weren’t voting for attacking the capital. They weren’t voting for overruling the election. They were going for a philosophy he put forward.”

Biden said in his speech: “So tonight, I have come this place where it all began to speak as plainly as I can to the nation about the threats we face, about the power we have in our own hands to meet these threats, and about the incredible future that lies in front of us if only we choose it.

Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.

Now, I want to be very clear, very clear up front: Not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans.  Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology. I know because I’ve been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.

But there is no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans, and that is a threat to this country.

These are hard things. But I’m an American President — not the President of red America or blue America, but of all America.

And I believe it is my duty — my duty to level with you, to tell the truth no matter how difficult, no matter how painful.

And here, in my view, is what is true: MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution.  They do not believe in the rule of law.  They do not recognize the will of the people.

They refuse to accept the results of a free election.  And they’re working right now, as I speak, in state after state to give power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies, empowering election deniers to undermine democracy itself.

MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards — backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.

I believe America is at an inflection point — one of those moments that determine the shape of everything that’s to come after.

And now America must choose: to move forward or to move backwards?  To build the future or obsess about the past?  To be a nation of hope and unity and optimism, or a nation of fear, division, and of darkness?

MAGA Republicans have made their choice.  They embrace anger.  They thrive on chaos.  They live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies.”
